Artist Statement
A series of posters for the Hematology/Oncology unit within the department of Pediatrics at UW-Madison was created to increase awareness of Sickle Cell Anemia and the fact that in the United States, sickle cell anemia is most common among African Americans. In September 2020, the timing of the Black Lives Matter movement coincided with National Sickle Cell Awareness Month, making this an opportune moment to increase awareness of the life and health of the African American population.
